Unfunny Nerd Tangent 30: Austin Powers

The original Austin Powers mmmmovie is 20 years old, which only leaves us with one question:

Do we make you UNTy, baby?

Episode 30 is upon us, and we’ve gone back to the swinging sixties, man. Well, and also the seventies, but the less said about Goldmember the better.

As we wedding-tackled the winning topic of our shagadelic listener poll and dived mole-first into the Austin Powers Trilogy, a number of groovy topics poked out at us like Fat Bastard’s turtle head.

Jared celebrates his time at Evil Medical School, Derek bemoans the sequels for ruining the Austin Powers legacy, Greig reveals the only type of wood that doesn’t float, and Tim explains why those Subway / Fat Bastard jokes haven’t aged well.

And of course we tried to answer the immortal question: Elizabeth Hurley, Heather Graham or Beyonce? (Hint: the real answer is Frau Farbissina.)

All this and more on our latest Unfunny Nerd Tangent: Austin Powers.

Hosted by: ‘Prime Minister of New Holland’ Greig Tansley (@GreigT13).

Featuring: ‘Dr. Evil’ Jared Robinovitz (@superjew75), ‘Fat Bastard’ Tim Agne (@timagne) and ‘International Mayor of Mystery’ Derek Montilla (@cap_kaveman).

Music by Quincy Jones & Johnny Rivers.

Podcast Episode 299: No Mercy 2017 Results

Though the RAW tag team division may be a bit shallow, tag team wrestling in WWE right now is on FIRE! The Usos and New Day set the bar, but The Bar may have just elevated it in a gutsy performance on Sunday with Ambrose and Rollins. Man alive.

No Mercy provided a good amount of fun action with some dissatisfactory results mixed in, but everything ultimately worked out all right with a solid RAW follow up the next night.

SmackDown was indeed in our hometown this week, as well, but nobody from the show made it out to Glendale. Doesn’t sound like we missed much, though…

All that said, yes… we do address the elephant in the room. If you’re here to hear our side of the whole thing that went down with a former contributor to The Steel Cage this past weekend, you’ve come to the right place. If you don’t give a shit, skip the first half hour or so. Either way, it’s time to move on, and we can all do so now with a smile.

Why? Because wrestling… is… fun!

Featuring: Joshua Schlag (@thesteelcage / @schlizzag) and ‘The Mayor of Reseda’ Derek (@cap_kaveman).

Captain Jack’s Armbar Emporium Ep. 36: Humanoids for Heenan!

David Hayes (@davie06) returns to join Captain Jack Heartless (@JackHeartless) LIVE in studio this week.  They talk about the mass exodus from WhatCulture, and by extension, WCPW, the ongoing saga of GFW (or is it Impact?) & Anthem, and Jack closes the book on a longstanding issue, with the help of Wrestling Twitter.

Most importantly, Dave & the Captain pay respect and say farewell to the greatest manager, and arguably the most well-rounded performer in the history of professional wrestling – the Weasel himself, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan.  From the Heenan Family to Bockwinkel vs. Gagne to ruining Christmas for kids on Prime Time Wrestling, they cover a plethora of great memories.

Goodbye, Bobby.  Say hi to Gorilla for us.

Sponsored by Heels & Faces (@heelsandfaces).

Opening theme by Lemi and the Captain.

Closing theme by Ayumi Nakamura (@ayumi_nakamura).

Derek and Tim Eat Snacks Ep. 9: Popchips Star Wars Galaxy Puffs

That’s no moon. On this episode of the DATEScast, Tim invites Derek on a flavorless journey through time and space. Pursued by the Empire’s sinister agents, our heroes race home aboard their starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save their people and restore snacking freedom to the galaxy with this week’s snack, Popchips Star Wars Galaxy Puffs. They may not look like much, but do they have it where it counts? Will Tim find Derek’s lack of faith disturbing? And what role do GMOs play in our future? You don’t need to see any identification…these are the droids you’re looking for.

And never forget that Han shot first.

Featuring: Derek Montilla (@cap_kaveman) & Tim Agne (@timagne)

Podcast Episode 298: No Mercy 2017 Preview

Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman are going to collide, one-on-one, in Los Angeles, this weekend. I’d make a joke about natural disasters, but it’s probably too soon for that sort of thing.

In addition, John Cena and Roman Reigns will be looking to settle their beef, as we all don our multi-colored CeNation gear. The Miz goes toe to toe with Kurt Angle’s son. And finally, the women are all fighting each other because that’s just what WWE does when they get lazy about writing proper storylines for them.

Meanwhile, on SmackDown… Jinder Mahal overstays his welcome, and well.. the women all fight each other there, too. Go figure.

Also, Josh tries to introduce a new game to the crew. Is it fun or terrible? Listen and decide for yourself!

Featuring: ‘The Beast from the Middle East’ Darrell Johnson (@zazzumplop), Joshua Schlag (@thesteelcage / @schlizzag) and ‘The Mayor of Reseda’ Derek (@cap_kaveman).

Music by The Black Furies, courtesy of Music Alley.
